  1. My name is Doug. I just moved to Twin Falls (01/06/17). My family are still back in California while we try to sell our house. They will be joining me soon. My 5 year old son has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It took us 3 years to get that diagnosis even though my wife and I knew that's what it was. My wife is a holistic nutritionist so we use many natural supplements and tinctures with our son and are constantly learning what works best for him. We have seen vast improvement over the last couple years. One very important change that we made was removing all gluten and dairy from his diet. According to his food alergy test he is highly allergic to dairy and he is reactive to gluten. It causes cellular inflammation especially in the brain. When he had gluten all of his old autism symptoms/stimming behavior would return. When we first started this journey my son was non-verbal. Within a week after cutting out the gluten and dairy he started to speak. It was so joyous when he finally said mommy and daddy for the first time. Also, we all had DNA tests done and noticed that both my wife and I had genetic mutations in our methylation genes. Your body methalates vitamins to break them down into substances your body can use. Well she had one mutation and I had the other and my poor son ended up with both. There are a lot of studies on methylation issues amongst individuals on the spectrum and it turns out that most (if not all) have these genetic mutations. Supplementing with methylated versions of vitamins has definitly helped my son. Dr. Kurt Woeller has done fascinating research on ASD and is probably the leading researcher in the West. The question I have is what is my first step in getting my son the support that he needs in Idaho?
